The New Zealand wicketkeeper Brendon McCullum has been appointed captain of the Kolkata Knight Riders cricket team in place of former Indian captain Sourav Ganguly, just before the Indian Premier League begins in South Africa.

The decision was announced at a media conference in Cape Town, where coach John Buchanan also confirmed he had ditched controversial plans to have multiple captains.

Buchanan says McCullum has the support of Sourav Ganguly along with Brad Hodge and Chris Gayle as senior members and Matthew Mott as coach.
