Chiefs top Super 14 for first time

The Chiefs are on top of Rugby's Super 14 table after a hard-fought 28-10 win over the rock-bottom Cheetahs in Kimberley with three other New Zealand teams still a chance after a weekend of upsets.

With six successive victories the Chiefs are on the best winning streak of their history.

They're on 31 points level with the second placed Sharks, who lost to the Crusaders in Durban, and two clear of the Bulls, who were defeated by the ACT Brumbies in Canberra.

The Hurricanes are also on 29 points after their home win over the Stormers. one clear of the fifth-placed Blues.

The Crusaders are eighth on 26 points, one behind the Brumbies, who trail the Waratahs by one, with the Highlanders slipping to `10th after their loss to the Blues.
