Plans for a New Zealand bobsleigh team to compete at next year's Winter Olympics in Vancouver have been dropped after the team failed to attain performance targets set for them.

They were forced to withdraw from the world champs in Lake Placid last month when driver Allan Henderson was injured in training.

That meant they were unable to achieve a top 16 place which they needed to get continued funding from Sport and Recreation New Zealand.

The team had been together for just eight months.
