Lyon named in State of Origin squad despite statement

The New South Wales selectors have ignored Jamie Lyon's request and included the Manly player star in a preliminary 40-strong squad to contest the State of Origin opener in Melbourne on June the 3rd.

Lyon was one of eight members of last year's premiership-winning outfit to earn selection in the extended squad.

The former Test centre has indicated he doesn't want to play but his request has been knocked back by the ARL as he hadn't satisfied the exemption crietria.

Notable absentees included Sydney Roosters pair Willie Mason and Braith Anasta, while last year's starting prop Brett White was also overlooked.
