Racism timeouts proposed for Europe

7:29 am on 22 April 2009

The European Football boss Michel Platini has talked about the possibility of suspending matches for 10 minutes if fans take part in racist chanting.

In the wake of the latest racist taunts on the continent, during last weekend's match between Juventus and Inter Milan, Platini said it would take courage, but UEFA is considering stopping matches for 10 minutes if there is racist chanting, and calling matches off altogether if the suspension wasn't effective.

Juventus have appealed against an order to play their next home league match behind closed doors.
