Great to join greats, says O'Connell

The Irish lock Paul O'Connell says it's a privilege to be chosen to lead the British and Irish Lions for next month's tour of South Africa.

The Lions coach Ian McGeechan signalled his preference for a forward before selecting O'Connell over his Irish team mate Brian O'Driscoll, who this year captained his country to their first grand slam since 1948.

O'Connell joins the likes of countryman Willie-John McBride and England's Martin Johnson as a lock leading the Lions and he says it's wonderful to have his name next to so many greats of the past.
