Brown under par on first day in Shanghai

The Wellington golfer Mark Brown has put together a sub par round on the opening day of the Champions tournament in Shanghai.

Brown's one-under par 71 has him in a tie for 28th in the exclusive field of 78 who will all play four rounds.

The American Nick Watney posted a 64 to lead by two shots, while the favourite Tiger Woods had a 67.

The other New Zealander in the field Danny Lee had a 74.
