Safin takes final bow in Paris

The tempestuous Russian tennis star Marat Safin has officially retired.

The curtain has fallen on the career of the former world number one with his second-round defeat in three sets to the current US Open champion Juan Martin del Potro at the Paris Masters.

In a post-match ceremony 29-year-old Safin was shown a video of his peers congratulating him on his career which included two major titles, the Australian and US Opens.
