Steyn wrecks Indian batsmen

Updated at 6:06am on 9 February 2010

Dale Steyn picked up career-best figures of 7 for 51 to put South Africa on top after 3 days of the opening test against India in Nagpur.

The right-arm quick polished off the last six India wickets for 12 runs in 7.4 overs after tea to bundle them out for 233... forcing them to follow-on.

At stumps India, the number one ranked test team, are 66 for 2, still trailing South Africa by 259 runs.

Murali Vijay is on 27 and Sachin Tendulkar 15.

Earlier Virender Sehwag scored his 18th test century in the Indian first innings.

The second and final Test between the world's top two teams begins in Kolkata on February 14th.

South Africa can snatch back the number one Test ranking from India if they win the series while the hosts need just a draw to remain on top.
