High winds, swell delay America's Cup start

Updated at 12:37pm on 10 February 2010

The start of the America's Cup is set to be delayed yet again with organisers pushing back the start time of the opening race by at least two hours, due to a forecast of strong winds and swell.

The best-of-three duel between holders Alinghi and challengers BMW Oracle had been due to begin on Monday but the opening race was postponed due to unreliable wind.

Poor weather is also forecast for the race which was due to get underway at 10pm New Zealand time, forcing organisers to re-schedule for it midnight.

The principal race officer Harold Bennett says a further assessment of conditions will be made 7.30 tonight.
