In form Wellingtonian early leader at national champs

The country's amateur golfer of the moment Peter Spearman-Burn was in good touch on the first day of the NZ amateur championship in Auckland.

Spearman-Burn, the current North and South Island champion is the leader going into the second round of the strokeplay championship at Titirangi after a 4-under par 66 yesterday, one shot ahead of Hamilton's Mathew Perry and Ben Taylor from Omokaroa.

Spearman-Burns' twin brother Thomas, the defending champion, had a 71.

In the womens tournament at Remuera, internationals Zoe Brake from Whakatane and Emily Perry from Lochiel lead after opening rounds of 68 asnd 69 respectively.
