Cougars need some money to stay in NBL

The Christchurch Cougars says they'll find it difficult to complete the National Basketball League if they don't get some financial assistance.

The new franchise currently sits top of the standings, but it may be off-field issues that block their progress this year.

The Cougars are seeking funding for community programmes in addition to critical operational costs including airfares and accommodation.

Cougars co-owner Amy Gardiner says while contra sponsorship is very strong, and absolutely essential to their success, they are now looking for cash sponsors.

Their recent home games have attracted sellout crowds at Cowles Stadium.
