Firebirds on fire against Magic

6:09 am on 27 April 2009

The star-studded Waikato-Bay of Plenty Magic couldn't break New Zealand netball's drought in Australia, falling 53-42 to the Queensland Firebirds in the ANZ trans-Tasman Championship.

The Firebirds Jamaican shooter Romelda Aiken got a good supply of ball while the homeside also defended very well against the previously unbeaten Magic.

While Irene van Dyk shot 92 percent against Aiken's 76 percent, the Firebirds were able to put up 71 shots to the Magic's 49.

The Magic are still second on the table behind the unbeaten Melbourne Vixens, with 3 wins and a loss, while the Firebirds are 2 and 2.

Tonight the Canterbury Tactix play the Adelaide Thunderbirds and the New South Wales Swifts play the Northern Mystics.
