Ericsson 4 wins Volvo sixth stage

The Swedish yacht Ericsson 4 has won the sixth stage of the Volvo round-the-world race from Rio de Janeiro to consolidate its overall lead

Ericsson 4, with Brazilian Torben Grael in charge, took 15 days, three hours and five minutes to negotiate the 4,900 nautical miles .

The yachts will leave Boston on May 16 on the seventh stage to Galway in Ireland.

The Volvo Ocean Race, which began in Alicante, Spain in October, is to conclude in St Petersburg, Russia, in June after nine months negotiating 10 stages over 37,000 nautical miles.
