New Zealand triathletes should feature in a lucrative new World Championship Series being launched at Tonyeong in South Korea this weekend with Sam Warriner, Andrea Hewitt, Debbie Tanner and Nicky Samuels all earning starts.

The $260,00 race is the first in a series that will decide overall rankings for the season and divide a $890,000 bonus pool at the end of the season.

It's intended to take the sport to a wider global audience through more competitive racing, live television and a bigger prize pool.

Samuels, who's first in the ITU women's world rankings, says consistency will be the key as the best will race against the best in most, if not all, of the World Series races, unlike last year when rhe Olympic Games was the main focus.
