Rain disrupts Rome Masters again

6:23 am on 29 April 2009

Rain continued to disrupt the Rome Masters tennis tournament after bringing an early halt to proceedings yesterday.

The former world number one Marat Safin's match against Spanish 13th seed Tommy Robredo, one of the delayed first-round clashes, was interrupted by downpours in the eighth game after starting just under two hours late.

Russia's Mikhail Youzhny had time to finish off his match against fellow qualifier Daniel Gimeno-Traver of Spain, winning 7-5 6-4 to set up a clash with Swiss 10th seed Stanislas Wawrinka.

Serbia's Novak Djokovic, who had a bye to the second round along with the other top seeds, was due to start his title defence against Spain's Albert Montanes later today.

British fourth seed Andy Murray will take on Argentine qualifier Juan Monaco, weather permitting.
