The world tennis number four Andy Murray has been sent packing from the Rome Masters in a huge upset.

The 21-year-old Scot, seeded through to the second round, looked in total control as he took the first set 6-1 against the Argentine qualifer Juan Monaco, but Monaco took advantage of some sloppy play by Murray to win the next two sets 6-3 7-5.

Murray had hoped to swap places this week with the Serbia's world number three Novak Djokovic.

The world's top two players Rafael Nadal and Roger Federer cruised through to the third round.
