The US-based Nationwide Tour has postponed its Mexico Open golf tournament because of the swine flu outbreak, joining a growing list of sports events put off by the imminent pandemic.

The president of the tour for rising professional golfers, Bill Calfee, says the event, scheduled for May 21st to 24th, would be rescheduled for later in the year.

The Mexico Open was to be played at El Bosque Golf Club in Leon, some 200 miles northwest of Mexico City.

Also, golf's Canadian Tour has postponed its San Luis Potosi Open, which was scheduled to begin at the end of the week.

The Canadian Tour had already postponed the final two events of its Mexican swing due to health concerns.
