The Blues player Rene Ranger will be charged with assault tomorrow at the District Court in Warkworth but he won't be there.

Ranger's in Wellngton for tomorrow night's Super 14 match with the Hurricanes and his solicitor applied for him to be excused from appearing, which the court's Deputy Registar agreed to.

The 22-year-old winger will be remanded until the 29th of May and the matter will be considered for diversion.

The charge follows an incident at Matakana, after which the Blues stood down Ranger for the match against the Queensland Reds at Albany.

His NZRU misconduct hearing is scheduled for next Tuesday.
