Skaife makes return to the V8 track

7:31 am on 2 May 2009

The retired Holden legend Mark Skaife is returning to the Australian V8 Supercar series, taking part in the opening practice session at Winton Raceway in Victoria.

The five-time champion was asked to test Greg Murphy's Holden.

While he won't race this weekend, it will be the first time Skaife has been in a V8 since he retired last December.

Skaife is allowed to drive in only the first practice session, which is open to drivers who don't take part regularly in the championship.

When he retired Skaife said he would make periodic appearances.

He's expected to drive in the Phillip Island endurance round and Bathurst 1000 in October, but is yet to announce for which team.
