The batsman and burgeoning all-rounder Jesse Ryder has been named the New Zealand player of the year by his peers in the 2008/09 NZ Cricket Players' Association survey.

Kane Williamson was overwhelmingly voted the most promising player yet to play for New Zealand.

Napier's McLean Park was voted as having the best wicket, with Eden Park having the best practice facilities in the country. At the other end of the scale, Dunedin's University Oval was voted by the players as having the worst wicket and practice facilities in the country.

The annual survey was completed by 86 players.
