The Auckland Golf Club survived the big wet to win its first national Club Championship at the Lakes Resort at Pauanui on the Coromandel Peninsula .

A superb three-over par 74 from the former Eisenhower representative Brent Paterson provided the winning edge.

Auckland finished three shots ahead of the two time champions New Plymouth with a 16-over par 229 for the best three of four counting scores in wet and testing conditions that saw the final reduced to 18 holes.

Invercargill was third on 242, one ahead of Hastings.
