Bowden suspended for high tackle

7:52 am on 4 May 2009

The Highlanders back Daniel Bowden has been suspended for one week for foul play following their 23-15 Super 14 loss to the Sharks in Durban yesterday.

Bowden was cited for a high tackle and received a yellow card... he pleaded guilty to the charge.... while the Highlanders argued the yellow card was sufficient punishment, he was handed the ban and will miss next weekend's match against the Lions in Johannesburg.

Tighthead prop Clint Newlands was cleared of a punching charge.

Meanwhle the Sharks' halfback Rory Kockott is still to have his hearing for punching Highlanders flanker Adam Thomson, which resulted in a red card.
