One of world football's kingpins has launched a humiliating attack on Asia's chief Mohamed bin Hammam, urging him to seek psychiatric help as the struggle for power in Asia intensified.

The South Korean tycoon Chung Mong-joon told journalists he was afraid bin Hammam, who's from Qatar, may be a sick man who needs to be at a hospital rather than at world football's governing body FIFA.

Chung, a FIFA vice-president, says Asian football suffersd from a serious lack of transparency, democracy and rule of law.

A spokesman for bin Hammam would not comment.

Chung launched the attack on the eve of a vote to select a West Asia representative to sit on FIFA's executive committee.

ahrain's Sheikh Salman bin Ebrahim al-Khalifa is challenging bin Hammam who has held the seat unopposed since 1996.
