Goorjian to help Basketball China

The former Australian men's basketball coach Brian Goorjian has agreed to resurrect his international career in China.

Goorjian has signed on as an assistant coach for the Chinese men's national team ahead of next year's world championships and the 2012 Olympic Games.

He will help 33-year-old rookie head coach Guo Shiqiang.

Goorjian's appointment to the Chinese programme comes less than two months after Basketball Australia replaced him as Boomers coach with San Antonio Spurs assistant coach Brett Brown.

Goorjian, who coached the Australian men at the past two Olympics, will remain head coach of the South Dragons in the ANBL.

He says the opportunity to return to the international stage with China was too good to pass up.
