Major League Baseball says the power-hitting Los Angeles Dodgers outfielder Manny Ramirez has been suspended for 50 games after testing positive for a performance enhancing drug.
Ramirez signed a two-year, $45 million contract with the Dodgers before the season and was hitting .348 with six homers and 20 runs batted in.
He'd helped the National League Dodgers post a 21-8 record this season, the best mark in the major leagues.
The 36-year-old, 12-time All-Star player is one of the biggest names to be penalised since baseball began a testing programme to detect use of performance-enhancing drugs in 2003.
