Australian National Basketball League in limbo

6:39 pm on 11 May 2009

The future of this year's Australian National Basketball league is in limbo, with the Melbourne Tigers the latest club to announce they're withdrawing from the upcoming NBL season.

The Tigers chief executive Seamus McPeake says the club feels current model for the proposed revamped competition is "unsustainable".

The Tigers' decision followed the announcement by reigning champions the South Dragons laet last week that they're also withdrawing, although both Melbourne clubs say they want to rejoin the competition next year.

Basketball Australia will announce tomorrow whether the new league will go ahead as scheduled starting in October.

The Tigers' withdrawal now leaves any revamped competition without any teams in Melbourne, Sydney or Brisbane.
