The Beijing 1500m bronze medallist Nick Willis will have to wait until early next month before being confirmed as the Olympic silver medallist.
The gold medal winner Rashid Ramzi of Bahrain tested positive to the new blood-boosting drug CERA in retrospective testing of samples from last year's Games.
The secretary general of the New Zealand Olympic Committee, Barry Maister, says they're yet to hear whether Ramzi's B sample has also returned a positive result.
He says that result should come through early next month and if it also shows up the drug, Willis should automatically move up to second.
