The Breakers will be part of a revamped Australian national basketball league which will go ahead as planned from October, despite there being no teams from Sydney, Melbourne or Brisbane.

There had been much speculation the league would be postponed for a year after last season's champions the Melbourne based South Dragons and beaten finalists the Melbourne Tigers revealed they wouldn't be taking part.

Franchises in Sydney and Brisbane had previously folded due to financial problems.

Basketball Australia however says it will press ahead with plans for a seven team competition, including the Auckland based Breakers.

The other franchises are based in Perth, the Gold Coast, Adelaide, Wollongong, Cairns and Townsville.
