Meads to accept knighthood - but don't call me Sir

Updated at 7:00 pm on 12 May 2009

Rugby legend Colin Meads will accept a knighthood, but doesn't want to be called Sir.

Meads, who's a distinguished companion of the New Zealand Order of Merit, will be eligible to accept the British title, with the Government re-introducing parts of the British honours system.

However Meads says his former All Blacks skipper Sir Wilson Whineray and Sir Brian Lochore, are perfect gentlemen and should be called Sir.....but he's a bit rougher and doesn't want to be.
