Cronulla calls on shamed players to come forward

6:30 am on 16 May 2009

The Cronulla Sharks chairman Barry Pearce says other players who took part in the group sex scandal in Christchurch in 2002 should follow the lead of former player Matthew Johns and apologise to the woman involved.

Johns has been stood down indefinitely by the Channel Nine television network for his involvement in the incident seven years ago.

Pearce, who was chairman of the National Rugby League club at the time, says he looks back on the incident with shame, but he says innocent players could be implicated if he named names, but he's called on the players to apologise.
