Sharks beaten again

6:38 am on 17 May 2009

Things continue to go from bad to worse for the Cronulla Sharks rugby league club.

The embattled wooden spoon favourites slumped to an eighth straight NRL loss, 26-22 to Penrith which keeps them at the bottom of the table with just 1 win.

The club is at the centre of a group-sex scandal that happened in Christchurch in 2002.

The Newcastle coach Brian Smith hailed his side's 38-6 thrashing of the Sydney Roosters as their best display of the season.

Newcastle are second on the table.

The New Zealand Warriors play the North Queensland Cowboys in Auckland this afternoon.
