The Chief's chances of making the final of Rugby's Super 14 have taken a blow with two key players out and a third in doubt for Friday night's semi-final against the Hurricanes in Hamilton.

Halfback Brendon Leonard and prop Ben May are out and centre Richard Kahui's having tests today on the bruised calf which kept him out of the win over the ACT Brumbies.

Meanwhile the Crusaders head for South Africa today to take on the Bulls in Pretoria.

The Crusaders' coach Todd Blackadder says while they've always been one of the best defensive sides he's keen for them to show their attacking prowess on Sunday morrning.

Todd Blackadder expects the All Black lock Brad Thorn to be available after missing the Blues game with a hamstring twinge.
