The controversial all-rounder Andrew Symonds has been left out of the Australian cricket side for the Ashes tour but pace bowlng stalwarts Brett Lee and Stuart Clark have been recalled.
The 16-man squad for the five-Test series in England includes all-rounders Shane Watson and Andrew McDonald.
Watson has been chosen subject to fitness after sustaining a minor groin injury in the recent limited-over series against Pakistan but chief selector Andrew Hilditch expects him to take his place.
The series starts in Cardiff on July 8 and finishes at The Oval in late August.
Australia regained the Ashes with a 5-0 whitewash at home in 2006-07 after England won 2-1 there in 2005.
The rest of the squad is: Ricky Ponting (capt), Michael Clarke, Simon Katich, Phillip Hughes, Michael Hussey, Brad Haddin, Marcus North, Mitchell Johnson, Peter Siddle, Ben Hilfenhaus, Nathan Hauritz, Graham Manou.
