Smiling but silent Sonny Bill Williams returns to Australia

A smiling but silent Sonny Bill Williams has returned to Australia almost 10 months after walking out on the Bulldogs National Rugby League club.

The 23-year-old former Kiwis player left the Bulldogs last July to accept a big-money offer to join the Tana Umaga coached French rugby club Toulon.

No stranger to media scrutiny, Williams managed a smile but didn't answer any questions from waiting media before being hustled into a waiting Range Rover by a posse of minders.

Williams is due to turn out for the Barbarians against the Wallabies early next month in in Sydney.

But first he'll make his professional boxing debut when he fights New Zealander Gary Gurr in Brisbane on Wednesday night on the undercard of the middleweight world title fight involving his friend Anthony Mundine and IBO champion Daniel Geale.

Mundine the former WBA super middleweight and rugby league star Mundine is believed to have paid a substantial sum of money to the Bulldogs to help Williams get a realease from the NRL club.
