The winner of the Irish Golf Open, Shane Lowry has decided to turn professional, only days after becoming only the third amateur to win a title on the European Tour.

The 22-year-old Irishman had to forgo a $665,000 first prize when he upset a world class field of professionals at County Louth but, having earned a two-year exemption on the circuit, he will make his professional debut at next week's European Open at The London Club.
