New Zealand has produced one of the surprises of the World Womens Water Polo league in Adelaide in matching China in the middle half of their match before the world number five side won 15-11.
China led 10-8 going into the last quarter then scored five unanswered goals before New Zealand scored three times in the last minute.
Their return match is in Auckland on Saturday in the final round of the Asia/Pacific preliminaries.
