Magic beat Steel

The Waikato Bay of Plenty Magic have beaten the Southern Steel 48-39 in netball's trans-tasman Championship in Invercargill.

The second-placed Magic led by five after the first quarter and by eight at half-time.

The Steel needed a win to stay in touch with the top four and started strongly after the break, closing to within four before the Magic took off again to go into the final quarter ahead by 11.

The Steel got enough ball to win but their shooters couldn't cope with a formidable defence, spearheaded by the Silver Ferns goal keep Casey Williams.

Meanwhile the Melbourne Vixen remain unbeaten at the top of the table after beating the Sydney Swifts 65-63.
