Alan Shearer is set to be offered a four-year contract to stay on as manager of the English football club Newcastle who've just been relegated from the Premier League.

Shearer's spell as interim manager ended with Newcastle's final game of the season at Aston Villa, but owner Mike Ashley was reportedly due to meet with the former England striker last night to discuss the terms of a permanent contract.

Shearer, a Newcastle legend, is understood to have told his squad at a de-breifing yesterday, there would a major overhaul of the playing staff if he stays.

Shearer is willing to axe several high-earning flops, including Michael Owen and Mark Viduka, who are all out of contract.
