On day three at the French Tennis Open, there was a wake up call for the men's world number three Andy Murray who survived a mid-match meltdown and eventually beat the Italian Potito Starace in four sets to go through to the third round.

The young Scot, who's never won a title on clay, lost the second set to Starace, and he was a set point down at 5-1 in the third before launching an aggressive comeback fightback.

Maria Sharapova made a similar recovery in her second round match against fellow Russian Nadia Petrova, recovering from losing the second set 6-1 to take the match 8-6 in the third against the 11th seed.

Sharapova is on the comeback trail following a nine-month layoff with a career-threatening shoulder injury.

Twelve months after competing in Paris as the world number one, Sharapova turned up ranked 102nd as she is on a comeback trail following a nine-month layoff with a career-threatening shoulder injury, and she arrived in Paris ranked 102.
