The Tour de France champion Carlos Sastre of Spain has won his second stage of the centenary Tour of Italy on the 19th stage over 164 kilometres from Avellino to Vesuvio.
But the Russian Denis Menchov held onto the leader's pink jersey and Sastre couldn't propel himself into a podium position.
The Italian Franco Pellizotti came home in second with the 2007 champion Danilo Di Luca in third with Menchov on his wheel all the way to the line.
Di Luca managed to snatch the eight second time bonus that comes with that to cut Menchov's lead to just 18 seconds, setting up a thrilling time-trial finish in Rome in two days' time.
