Plumtree to help Springboks

The former Wellington rugby coach John Plumtree has been called into the Springboks camp to help prepare the side for the 3-test series against the British and Irish Lions.

Plumtree is the coach of the Sharks Super 14 side in Durban.

The breakdowns will be Plumtree's main area of focus with the Boks, something he was called in to do only briefly during last year's Tri-Nations.

Springbok assistant coach Gary Gold says the breakdowns and the kicking game of the respective teams will determine the outcome of this series, so it is crucial that they get that aspect of the game right.

Plumtree has long been a proponent of better organisation and team-work between South African loose-forward combinations, and two years ago, before the World Cup, Plumtree said that Schalk Burger, as one example, could be a more devastating player if used differently.
