Fiebirds swallow Swifts

The Queensland Firebirds have beaten the New South Wales Swifts 62-61 in Brisbane in round 10 of the ANZ netball championship.

The Firebirds' towering Jamaican goalshoot Romelda Aiken scored a game high 52 points while Catherine Cox scored 39 for the defending champions who'd appeared to be heading for a morale-boosting comeback win.

Instead they've slid to four points, ahead of only the winless Central Pulse, and their faint chances of making the play-offs have gone.

The unbeaten Melbourne Vixens play the second-placed Waikato Bay of Plenty Magic in Tauranga on Monday night, then the Southern Steel play the West Coast Fever in Perth.

The Thunderbirds are third, four points head of the Steel and Firebirds after beating the Northern Mystics in Adelaide.

The Canterbury Tactix are sixth, ahead of the Fever and Mystics.
