Eels stun the Knights

7:48 am on 8 June 2009

A controversial penalty and some Parramatta flair have given the Eels a 20-18 National Rugby League upset win over the Knights in Newcastle.

The hosts led 12-6 at half-time and can blame their first home loss this season on a questionable decision and their own complacency which allowed the Eels to produce some entertaining football in claiming their fourth win this season.

It was 12-all when referees Gavin Badger and Brett Suttor awarded the Eels a penalty 15 metres out directly in front of the posts after ruling support player Kevin Kingston had been taken out by Marvin Karawana.

The Eels winger Luke Burt kicked the penalty and then prop Fuifui Moimoi crossed for the match-winning try with seven minutes to go.

But Jarrod Mullen ensured a nail-biting finish with a solo try in the 75th minute.
