Roger Federer has completed a career grand slam and picked up a record-equalling 14th major tennis title with a stylish win over Sweden's Robin Soderling in the French Open final.

The 27-year-old world number two raced through the opening set in just 23 minutes on his way to a 6-1 7-6 6-4 victory, finally going all the way in Paris at his 11th attempt, and his fourth successive final.

Soderling had knocked out Federer's French Open stumbling block Rafael Nadal in the fourth round.

Federer joins a select group to have won all four grand slams - Fred Perry, Don Budge, Rod Laver, Roy Emerson and Andre Agassi.

He broke down in tears at the moment of victory, and again after receiving the trophy from Agassi, describing his performance as probably his greatest victory.
