New Zealand has defeated Australia in the New Zealand-Australia Mountain Bike Orienteering Challenge, held in conjunction with the 2009 Australian MTB Orienteering Championships in Mt Gambier, South Australia.
Holding a lead of 9:5 going into the final day, New Zealand held off the determined Aussies on the tricky Middle distance course, winning the day by four classes to three.
The overall victory of 13:9 means that New Zealand retains the trans-Tasman trophy won in 2007.
