Italy score narrow victory over All Whites in friendly

The New Zealand football team has been beaten 4-3 by World Cup holders Italy in a Confederations Cup warm-up match in Pretoria.

Shane Smeltz opened the scoring for the All Whites, the Italians then equalised, before Chris Killen put the New Zealanders ahead 2-1 at half time.

Italy equalised after the break, before Killen converted a penalty to put the New Zealanders ahead again.

Italy, who are ranked 4th in the world and 78 places higher than New Zealand, then scored twice midway through the second half to take the match.

New Zealand open their Confederations Cup against world number one Spain on Monday morning.
