The legendary Manly and Australian league star Steve Menzies has announced he'll retire from the game at the end of the current European Super League season, just two months before his 40th birthday.

Midway through his third season with Catalan Dragons based in the south of France, the former NSW and Kangaroos has revealed his 21st season finishing in October will be his last.

Menzies, who made his debut with Manly in 1993, moved to the UK in late 2008 for what was expected to be a one-season career swansong.

He's the most prolific try-scoring forward in Australian rugby league history, having crossed for 180 tries and he won 19 test caps.
