Canterbury delighted to get Carter back

8:03 am on 17 June 2009

The Canterbury rugby union's chief Hamish Riach says they're absolutely delighted to have been able to re-sign the All Black first-five Dan Carter until after the World Cup.

Carter's staying wiith Canterbury until 2011 and hopes his Achilles tendon injury will have have healed enough to allow him to play in the provincial championship in August.

And Riach says they weren't unduly concerned by a Sunday newspaper newspaper that he was about to sign with Auckland for a reported $400,000.

He says they knew Auckland was interested and would have made a serious offer which Carter needed to work through.

But Riach says Canterbury's discussions with Carter were always constructive and positive so they were less concerned about media speculation than they were about getting the deal done.
