New Zealand's football focus will turn to World Cup qualification once the All Whites have played their final Confederations Cup match on Sunday morning with their coach adamant that two defeats will have helped their cause.

Rikki Herbert says his team has got a lot out of the tournament, and it will greatly help their chances of qualifying for the World Cup despite a 5-0 and 2-0 losses to Spain and hosts South Africa.

But Herbert says the tournament's a rare opportunity to have the side together and to play against teams at a higher level.

He says they'll be going into the match against Iraq on Sunday morning to get a result, although more practice ahead of World Cup play-off qualifiers against Bahrain or Saudi Arabia in October and November is just as important.
